Miami Officer Facing Discipline For Wearing Trump Mask While Voting

Miami Police Department Officer Daniel Ubeda is facing disciplinary action after he was photographed wearing a "Trump 2020" face mask while in uniform. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said that the officer was in line to vote at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center when the photo was taken.

“It’s inappropriate, it’s against departmental orders,” Suarez said.

“Police officers are supposed to be impartial, so irrespective of who the person was, whatever sign it would have been, it would have been problematic.”

After the photo emerged on social media, Miami-Dade Democrats Chairman Steve Simeondis took aim at Ubeda.

"This is city funded voter intimidation. Ubeda should be suspended immediately. Not only is this an egregious form of voter intimidation, but it’s also a crime," Simeondis tweeted.

Officials have confirmed that the officer will be disciplined. However, local officials did not go into detail as to what the discipline would constitute. Mayor Suarez also explained that while he did commit an offense, it was mitigated by the fact that he was voting at the time the photo was taken.

“One important fact is that the officer was voting,” Suarez said.

“Had he not been voting it would have been a much more serious situation.”

Neither Ubeda nor The Miami Fraternal Order of Police has issued a statement regarding the matter.
