Colin Kaepernick To Publish Book Focused On Abolishing Prisons In October

Colin Kaepernick has transitioned from his NFL career and transformed into an all-around force in philanthropy and entertainment. In recent years, he's expanded his Know Your Rights Campaign, collaborated with Jemele Hill to develop a television series and established a partnership with Nike. Now, he's stepping into a new role as an editor and book publisher. As reported by TMZ Sports, the former NFL quarterback is serving as an editor and publisher for the upcoming book, Abolition For The People: The Movement For A Future Without Policing & Prisons.

For the last five years, the former college football star has worked to reimagine what Black liberation looks like. In many ways, his latest project hopes to do the same. Through a collection of nearly three dozen essays, Kaepernick and his colleagues will examine how a world without the currently established police force and prison system would impact Black communities.

“The omnipresent threat of premature death at the hands, knees, chokeholds, tasers, and guns of law enforcement has only further engrained its anti-Black foundation into the institutions of policing," Kaepernick stated.

"In order to eradicate anti-Blackness, we must also abolish the police. The abolition of one without the other is impossible."

Kaepernick is not the only major sports star working to release a book this year. In the world of basketball, LeBron James is currently finishing his second children's book, We Are Family. Set to be released on August 31, the book will tell the story of children from different backgrounds working to have a successful basketball season.

"We Are Family shows how an unlikely group of kids comes together to chase their dreams, despite having the odds stacked against them. It’s an important story of family, purpose and perseverance in the face of adversity that I hope inspires everyone who reads it to never stop dreaming and believing in what they’re capable of.”

Abolition For The People: The Movement For A Future Without Policing & Prisons will arrive two months after We Are Family. It is set to arrive in October.
