President Donald Trump has taken aim at Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) and the city of Baltimore, threatening to send National Guard troops amid his federal crackdown on crime, per The Hill.

On Sunday (August 24), Moore challenged Trump to "walk the streets of Maryland" rather than criticize the state from the Oval Office, as the president threatened a federal takeover of Baltimore.

“Governor Wes Moore of Maryland has asked, in a rather nasty and provocative tone, that I ‘walk the streets of Maryland’ with him,” Trump responded on Truth Social. “I assume he is talking about out of control, crime ridden, Baltimore? As President, I would much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster before I go there for a ‘walk.’”

Trump went on to criticize Baltimore's crime rate and threatened to pull federal funding for the rebuilding of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed after a cargo ship crash in 2024. The president also took aim at Moore's past, referencing a New York Times report that the governor had incorrectly claimed to have received a Bronze Star in his twenties. Moore, who was awarded the honor in 2024, later apologized for what he called an "honest mistake."

“Trump is doing everything in his power to distract from the Epstein files. Really makes you wonder…” Moore wrote Sunday on social media.

The Democrat also jabbed at Trump’s military history, saying, “Did Donald Trump, the President of the United States, lie about an injury to dodge the Vietnam draft?”

“Donald Trump can stay obsessed with me – that’s fine – but I’ll stay obsessed with working in partnership to continue our historic success of driving down crime in Baltimore," Moore added.

The exchange between Trump and Moore comes as the president looks to expand his federal crime crackdown, saying he's eyeing Chicago and New York as the next cities to face the deployment of National Guard troops.

On Sunday, Trump accused Baltimore of being a part of a larger crime problem among “blue states."

“Wes Moore’s record on Crime is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures on crime like many of the other ‘Blue States’ are doing… If Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the ‘troops,’ which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime," the president said Sunday.
