Coco Jones was posing for photos during New York Fashion Week (NYFW) when a woman began hurling racist insults at her. The encounter was captured in the singer’s YouTube vlog documenting her NYFW experience, which was posted Tuesday (October 20).
In the video, the woman can be heard saying, “God! You look so freaking Black!” Jones responds, “I’m Black and I’m proud.”
The woman then yells, “Blackie!” as Jones continues posing and smiling for the camera.
Civil rights attorney Lee Merritt addressed the incident in a social media post, writing, “This is what it’s like being Black in America in 2026.”
He added, “Our existence is not a provocation. Our dignity is not negotiable.”
Viewers also voiced their support for Jones in the comments section of her YouTube vlog.
“People hate what they can’t achieve, disgusting as hell someone even felt comfortable being racist to you but you’re a class act as always!! keep shining bright sista,” one commenter wrote.
Another praised Jones’ response, writing, “God it's some real haters in this world! You handled that well!”
