A list of major companies have pledged to invest billions of dollars into the U.S. as President Donald Trump's tariffs loom over manufacturing and the economy, per Newsweek.

On Friday (March 21), Johnson & Johnson announced that it would be investing over $55 billion in manufacturing, research and development, and technology in the U.S. over the next four years. Johnson & Johnson noted that the investment was a 25 percent increase from what it had committed under the Biden administration.

The announcement came in tandem with news that the company would be breaking ground on a 500,000-square-foot biologics manufacturing facility in Wilson, Carolina.

Last week, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son visited Trump's Mar-a-Lago, announcing a $100 billion investment over the next four years along with its pledge to create 100,000 jobs focused on artificial intelligence and related infractures.

The investments are an apparent response to Trump's 25 percent tariffs against longtime allies, including Canada, Mexico, and countries with the European Union. Canada and the EU have responded to Trump's move, levying retaliatory tariffs of 20 percent against the U.S. The president has also imposed 25 percent tariffs on China and all U.S. steel and aluminum imports.

The Trump administration previously touted the tariffs will spur more manufacturing in the U.S. and create more jobs. Experts cited that consumers will feel the burden of hiked tariffs.

The United Arab Emirates also recently committed to a 10-year, $1.4 trillion agreement that will sustain existing investments in AI infrastructure, semiconductors, energy, and American manufacturing. Earlier this month, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company announced that it would invest another $100 billion into its U.S. operations amid Trump's looming tariffs. Apple and Nvidia also announced hundreds of billions of dollars in investments in U.S.-based manufacturing operations.
